Day 4

Day 5

By Harper Kubaisi and Oliver Warren (the resident bloggers)

Theme park fun today, after a long journey and a bit of a wait! After arriving at PORT AVENTURA we had a little issue with the tickets because they forgot to include the meal deal! I mean what are we supposed to do without our food? Anyway, after we got the tickets sorted, we entered the gates and found a place to meet then we split up into our groups and scattered to all corners of the park.

They had a great variety of rides! There were rollercoasters, water rides, log flumes, beat the bull and so much more! We didn't know were to go first! As we wandered throught the park we came across a ride called 'stampede', the queue was only 30 minutes so we decided to give it a go and it turned out to be one of our favourites! This ride was not quite like the others, there was two queues leading to two different carts, one red one blue. You had to pick your team and race the other cart to the finish! The ride was fast, thrilling and intense, the two teams battled it out to the finish and red triumphed, twice! We left the ride to explore the rest of Port Aventura.
We continued walking through the jungle of rides until we reached one of the largest. Dragon Khan, a monster of a ride with over five loops and various corkscrews! Soon we found ourselves upside down with no idea of which way was up or down, after we tottered along to collect our bags and went, warily, towards the photos.
In the boiling heat we needed somewhere to cool down and a water ride seemed the best way to do so. We went to the one with the shortest queue but this avoided ride turned out to be one of the best. We all clambered aboard onto a boat, all armed with water guns, the aim to squirt others and get soaked! After various battles and drenches we dabbed for the camera. A photo we all bought at the end.

Throughout the day we all made pit stops to refill our stomachs and quench our thirst. There was so much food we didn't know where to go or what to eat. Eventually we settled at a Mexican restraunt, where we all ordered burgers and fries. As we were finishing our meal, a show began on stage. Mexican dancers flooded the stage and began showing us their moves. Let's just say we had to make a hasty retreat. After the main and a few rides we went on a hunt for icecream and all other things sweet. It didn't take us long. By the end of the day we were full, exhausted but had loved every moment of it! We headed back to the hotel for a well earned sleep.

NOW OVER TO THE STAFF. To all parents, what an amazing group of children. It has been a pleasure watching friendships form and the smiles on their faces. Once again, they should be asleep soon.......we hope!

Day 3

Another scorching day here in Barcelona!
We started our day on the Montjuic cable car and we thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful views of Barcelona. Many overcame their fear of heights and made it to the top.
A few hours later, we made our way to the centre where we had a delicious lunch, Tapas for the adventurous and pizza and pasta for the rest. We visited Las Ramblas and then onto La Boqueria food market where we bought smoothies and fresh fruit. After a stroll through the Gothic Quarter we headed for Camp Nou. Despite the heat and crowds, we enjoyed the tour of the stadium and pupils left laden with caps, tops and footballs!
We ended our evening with a meal in a restaurant in Las Ramblas and finally returned to our hotel at 10pm. Fingers crossed, our niños will be asleep soon........we hope!

Day 2

Today's blog is from Harper Al-Kubaisi and Oliver Warren

We started the day talking to a vegetarian that eats chicken (Evie). She has decided that when she grows up she is going to marry a chicken nugget, but would probably eat it within a few days!
After discussing all the laws needed to make Evie's marriage possible we arrived at park Guell, the mosaic tiles on display were amazing! We were all especally fond of the lizard. Every thing in The park was either covered In mosaic patterns or stunning flowers and the views of barcelona were incredible.
After about an hour of wandering round the Gaudi gardens we all cooled off in a small cove in the wall whilst some people went to the gift shop and brought some postcards, magnets, models, ect.

Next was the sagrada família, I don't think you can really appreciate it just by looking at photographs because when the coach drew up next to the church the was a collective gasp from the group. The 170 metre catherdral towered above us with the cranes still working on the unfinished structure. Just when you thought it couldn't get any better, we walked inside. The first thing you see is the bands of light cast onto the walls by the colourful stain glass windows. The columns dotted around the inside looked like trees (which was Gaudi's inspiration). Each was illuminated by a different colour ranging from dark blues to bright yellows!

After lunch (in which lots of chicken nuggets were consumed) we headed to water world. When we arrived everyone was impatient to get on the biggest slide there was and after a quick change we scattered into the different parts of the park. One of the most popular rides in the park was 'speed furious'. It was a tall ride with a vertical drop, you climbed up the stairs and got into a see through capsule, standing. You had to fold your arms and keep your head back then the life gaurd would give a signal and the floor gave way. Next thing you know your speeding down a open slide having the time of your life but also being given a major wedgie! The other rides were just as fun sending you down rapids, large slides and the like! After 4 hours of this we were all completely drenched and exhausted but exhilaredted. I think it was everyone's favourite part of the day and in most cases we came back to the hotel browner than before.
